He served as a corporal in the Home Army (AK) and later became a lieutenant colonel in the Polish Army. Matkowski participated in the defensive war of September 1939 and was active in various resistance movements. Post-war, he graduated from the School of Political Sciences and worked for the Central Foreign Trade Office 'Metaleksport'. He was born on March 28, 1922, and passed away on June 19, 2013.
