Włodzimierz Sokorski (1908-1999) was a Polish communist official, writer, and brigadier general. As Minister of Culture and Art, he enforced socialist realism and banned jazz in 1949, citing its imperialist influences. Despite his repressive actions, he helped some cultural figures during the socialist period. He led the Polish radio and television committee in the 1960s and edited the Miesięcznik Literacki magazine. Sokorski wrote memoirs and novels featuring sexual themes, receiving numerous state awards. He passed away in Warsaw and is buried at Powązki Military Cemetery.
