Xabier Zubizarreta Lasagabaster is a Basque politician and writer born on October 18, 1944, in Aretxabaleta, Gipuzkoa. He served as the mayor of Arrasate from 1987 to 1997 representing the political party HB. Following the death of Miguel Angel Blanca and a subsequent motion of no confidence from all political parties in Arrasate, he lost his position in August 1997. He returned to serve as mayor again in the 1999 elections representing EH until 2003, but was unable to participate in that year's elections due to the party's illegalization.
