Xangô da Mangueira, born Olivério Ferreira on January 19, 1923, in Rio de Janeiro, was a renowned Brazilian sambista, singer, and composer. He began his career at the samba school União de Rocha Miranda before moving to Portela, where he studied under Paulo da Portela. A dedicated member of Mangueira for life, he served as a harmony director and was its official samba interpreter until 1951. In the 1970s, he released four LPs and performed widely in Brazil and abroad. He passed away on January 7, 2009, at the age of 85, due to heart issues.
