Xanti Vicente Altxu, known as Madelon, was a prominent LGBTI rights activist from Errenteria, born on September 16, 1959. He was one of the first activists in the Basque Country to fight for LGBTI rights in 1979, following the murder of Vicente Vadillo Santamaría. He was kidnapped by police in December 1982, during which he was tortured. Altxu was a founding member of EHGAM and contributed to the gay liberation movement in the Basque region, opposing the 'Social Risk' law and advocating for apostasy. He also helped preserve Errenteria's historical memory.
