Xavier Le Pichon is a French geologist born on June 18, 1937, in Quy Nhơn, French Indochina (now Vietnam). He is recognized as a pioneer of plate tectonics, having proposed a model for it in 1968. Since 1986, he has held the chair of Geodynamics at the Collège de France, contributing significantly to the field of geology and our understanding of tectonic processes.
