He has held various positions, including teacher at Inner Mongolia Normal University, leader of the CIMS Research Office at the Guangzhou City Productivity Center, and general manager of He-Yi Digital Technology Co., Ltd. Tianjin. He played a significant role in the computer science department at Ningbo University of Technology and chaired NinBo Tian Mei Technology Co. Zhang was also involved in the China democracy movement in December 1986 and June 1989.
