Yann Martel, born on June 25, 1963, is a Spanish-Canadian author known for his allegorical novel 'Life of Pi', which won the Booker Prize in 2002. The book became a bestseller in 50 countries, selling over 12 million copies and remaining on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year. It was adapted into a film directed by Ang Lee, winning four Oscars. Martel has also written several other novels and won various literary awards. He resides in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with his partner Alice Kuipers and their four children.
