Yaroslav 'Yarko' Pustovyi is a former Ukrainian astronaut and Canadian businessman, born on December 29, 1970. He was selected as one of the first astronauts by the State Space Agency of Ukraine in 1996. Although he served as a backup payload specialist for the NASA STS-87 mission in 1997, he did not participate in the flight. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Order of Merit for Ukraine in 1998, and in 2003, he was a competitor for the Ansari X Prize with the Canadian Arrow team.
