Yaşar Erkan was a Turkish wrestler born on April 30, 1911, in Erzincan, who competed in the 1930s. He combined Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. Erkan was the first Turkish athlete to win an Olympic gold medal at the Summer Olympics. He competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, clinching gold in the Greco-Roman featherweight category and participating in freestyle where he was eliminated in the third round. Additionally, he achieved five Balkan Championships in 1933, 1934, 1935, 1937, and 1940.
