Yasuhiro Matsumura is a Japanese oncologist born on January 20, 1955, in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture. He is renowned for discovering the EPR effect in cancer chemotherapy, alongside Hiroshi Maeda. After obtaining his medical degree in 1981, he specialized in surgery and microbiology, ultimately becoming the head of the medical department at the National Cancer Center Hospital in 1999. Matsumura developed the Cancer Stromal Targeting Therapy (CAST) and has made significant contributions to early cancer diagnosis through automated cytodiagnostics.
