Yasuko Kawata is a Japanese poet and French literature scholar, born on December 16, 1934, in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. She graduated from Tohoku University in 1959 and completed her master's degree at Kyoto University in 1961. She held various academic positions at Tamagawa University, eventually becoming a professor and later an emeritus professor after her retirement in 2005. Kawata received the Oguma Hideo Prize for her poetry collection 'Hoppou Sabaku' in 1972. Additionally, she served as the president of the Japan Christian Poets Association from 2003 to 2013.
