Born in Ibaraki Prefecture, he was a pioneer in the field of professional translation in Japan and contributed significantly to the training of many translators. His real name was Yasuo, and he was a member of several literary organizations, including the Japan PEN Club, the Japan Writers' Association, and the Japan Translators Association.
