Yessenқұl Jaқypbekov was a prominent Kazakh poet and writer, born on February 10, 1954, in the village of Birlik, located in the Zhambyl District of Almaty Region. He was known for his contributions to the art of aitys, a traditional Kazakh poetic competition. Jaқypbekov was also a member of the Kazakhstan Writers' Union since 1995. He passed away on November 14, 2013, leaving behind a legacy in Kazakh literature.
