Yongbin Ruan is a Chinese mathematician born on February 14, 1963, known for his work in algebraic geometry, differential geometry, and symplectic geometry, particularly in applications to string theory. He studied at Sichuan University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1991. Ruan has held academic positions at the University of Utah, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the University of Michigan. He has also been a guest professor at prestigious institutions such as ETH Zurich and MIT. He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
