He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1981, and earned his Ph.D. in 1985 from Stanford University under Joseph Halpern, focusing on knowledge in distributed environments. He has also worked at the Weizmann Institute and has prominent contributions to knowledge representation, particularly in distributed systems. Notably, he received the Gödel Prize in 1997 and the Dijkstra Prize in 2009, both shared with Halpern.
