Yoshiya Kakimoto was a Japanese politician who served as the fourth democratic governor of Nara Prefecture from 1991 to 2007. Born on February 7, 1938, in Yamato-Takada, Nara, he graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1961. Prior to becoming governor, he was a vice-governor for one year. His tenure saw involvement in managing public funds and facing corruption cases. He was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun in 2009. Kakimoto unexpectedly decided not to run for re-election in 2007, nominating Shōgo Arai as his successor.
