Yūjirō Ikemi was a pioneering Japanese physician who laid the groundwork for psychosomatic medicine and psychosomatic psychiatry in Japan. Born on June 12, 1915, in Kasuya, Fukuoka Prefecture, he graduated from Kyushu Imperial University Faculty of Medicine. He studied at the Mayo Clinic in the United States and helped establish the Japan Society of Psychosomatic Medicine in 1960, serving as its first president. He also became a professor at Kyushu University, focusing on the relationship between mental and physical health. He passed away on June 25, 1999, at the age of 84.
