Yuri Fokin was a Soviet and Russian chess composer, born on July 11, 1925, in Leningrad. He became a sports master in 1984 and an international arbiter in chess composition in 1998. Fokin served as the chairman of the Leningrad chess composition commission from 1975 to 1988. He participated in World War II and later worked as a chess journalist, editing the chess section of 'Evening Leningrad' since 1969. He published 320 chess compositions, mainly focusing on two- and three-move problems.
