Yuri Starunsky was a Russian volleyball player born in Kyiv on April 17, 1945. He competed for the Soviet Union during the 1960s and 1970s. Starunsky won a bronze medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics and a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. His accolades include a silver medal at the 1974 World Volleyball Championship and two European Championship gold medals in 1971 and 1975. He played for SKA Kyiv until 1970 and for CSKA Moscow until 1982, winning thirteen Soviet league titles and five European Cup editions.
