Yuri Smbati Tunyan is an Armenian physician and neurologist born on September 1, 1937, in Kirovakan, USSR. He received his doctorate in medical sciences in 1980 and became a professor in 1985. Tunyan is an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia since 1999 and is also an academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. In recognition of his contributions to science, he was honored as a Distinguished Scientist of the Republic of Armenia in 2012.
