Yury Fyodorovich Isakov was a prominent Soviet and Russian surgeon, born on June 28, 1923, in Kovrov, Vladimir Oblast. He earned his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree and became an academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences in 1975 and the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2013. He was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1999 and received two State Prizes of the USSR. Isakov served as the Chief Pediatric Surgeon of the USSR from 1966 and as Deputy Minister of Health from 1981 to 1987.
