Zagir Mirzabekovič Zagirov is a Soviet and Russian linguist and Caucasologist born on November 20, 1938, in Chuvek, Dagestan ASSR, USSR. He specializes in Caucasian languages, particularly Dagestani languages, and comparative typology. He is an academician at the Academy of Pedagogical and Social Sciences of the Russian Federation and the head of the General Linguistics Department at DGPU. Zagirov is known for his significant contributions to the field and has established one of the first dissertation councils for evaluating doctoral and candidate theses in Caucasian languages.
