Zaiga Ikere is a Latvian philologist and educator, born on January 23, 1945, in Kuldiga. She has been teaching at Daugavpils University since 1975 and served as the rector from 2002 to 2007. From 1996 to 2002, she was the head of the English Language Department. In recognition of her contributions and the 730th anniversary of Daugavpils, she was named an honorary citizen in 2005. The city council also commemorated her 65th birthday in 2010.
