Zainab Salbi is an Iraqi-American writer and women's rights activist born in 1969 in Baghdad, Iraq. The daughter of a personal pilot for former President Saddam Hussein, her family faced psychological abuse. She founded Women for Women International to support women survivors of war. After moving to the USA at 19, her experiences during the Iran-Iraq War led her to advocate for women affected by war, discussing issues such as sexual violence. She has been featured in major media, including seven appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Washington Post.
