Zainul Abedin (December 29, 1914 – May 28, 1976) was a prominent Bangladeshi painter known for his art depicting the famines in Bengal during British colonial rule, notably he gained recognition for his artworks related to the 1943 Bengal famine. He played a significant role in establishing the Institute of Arts and Crafts at Dhaka University in 1948. His artistic vision earned him the title of 'Shilpacharya,' meaning great master of art, and he is regarded as a guiding figure in the modern art movement in Bangladesh.
