Khachaturyan was a prominent painter and was recognized as a Merited Artist of the Republic of Armenia in 1983 and Russia in 2005. He received the title of Honored Artist of Armenia in 2012. He was also a member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts in St. Petersburg since 1995. He was the brother of sculptor Artashes Hovsepyan.
