She competed in the 400 meters event at the 2012 Summer Olympics, being one of only two Somali athletes at the Games. Notably, she carried the Somali flag during the opening ceremony. Despite finishing last in her event with a time of 1:20.48 seconds, she showcased tremendous courage, especially after receiving death threats due to her participation as a woman in the Olympics.
