As an amateur, he represented China in international competitions, including the Summer Youth Olympics and the Eisenhower Trophy. In 2014, he turned professional and achieved significant success, winning four times on the PGA Tour China and the Order of Merit in 2016. Dou became the first Chinese player to win on the Web.com Tour, achieving this at the Digital Ally Open in 2017. He is also known by the name Marty in the United States.
