Želimir Janeš was a prominent Croatian sculptor and medalist born on December 12, 1916, in Sisak and died on January 23, 1996, in Zagreb. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1941 under Fran Kršinić and studied small sculpture with Ivo Kerdić. He worked with renowned artists Ivan Meštrović and Antun Augustinčić. Janeš taught at the School of Applied Arts and was a professor of sculpture at the Academy from 1961 to 1987. He received several awards for his artistic and pedagogical contributions, including the Vladimir Nazor Award.
