Zhao achieved notable success, winning a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics and a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She also secured victory in the 2003 World Grand Prix and was awarded Best Attacker at the World Cup in Japan. Additionally, Zhao is a multiple Asian champion, having won the Asian Games in 2002. Injuries forced interruptions in her career.
