Zia Haider (November 18, 1936 - September 2, 2008) was a Bangladeshi writer, poet, playwright, translator, and professor. His full name was Sheikh Faisal Abdur Rauf Mohammad Ziauddin Haider. He was the founding president of the Nagarik Natya Sampraday and established the Bangladesh Institute of Theatre Arts (BITA). He authored seven poetry collections and four plays, translating several others. In recognition of his contributions to literature, he received the Bangla Academy Award in 1977 and the Ekushey Padak, the highest civilian award from the Government of Bangladesh, in 2001.
