He excelled as a catcher in the Negro leagues and was a talented basketball player for the Harlem Globetrotters from 1938 to 1946. A Southern University alumnus, he was noted for his exceptional ball-handling skills. Marcell played professional football in 1944 and had a brief stint in baseball with the Farnham Pirates in 1950, concluding his Negro leagues career with the Newark Eagles in 1948. He passed away on October 10, 1990.
