He served over 20 years as a prosecutor in Piauí and was briefly affiliated with PSDB before being elected a federal deputy in 2002 for PCdoB. In 2003, he switched to PDT. Noted for his commitment to social causes and fighting organized crime, he became a controversial figure. Found dead on August 9, 2004, during his mayoral campaign, the Federal Police claimed suicide, though some relatives disputed this due to threats against him.
