Aimo Armas Turunen was a Finnish linguist and professor of Finno-Ugric languages. He completed his degree at the University of Helsinki in 1934. Following his graduation, he lectured at the University of Königsberg. Turunen served in both the Winter War and Continuation War. Post-war, he held various academic positions, including a professorship in Finno-Ugric languages at the University of Helsinki. His significant works include a dissertation on the sound history of Karelian dialects and a dictionary of the Kalevala. He also authored several textbooks and received a literary award in 1990.
