Akio Nishimura (April 3, 1936 – September 22, 1992) was a Japanese tenor saxophonist from Tosa Shimizu, Kochi. The youngest of four siblings, he began his musical journey with the accordion. Nishimura attended Waseda University, where he was a member of the sumo club. He started his professional music career in 1959, accompanying Hiroshi Mizuara's hit 'Kuroi Hanabira' on tenor saxophone, and was associated with the band Sharps and Flats in the 1970s. Later, he moved to the USA and passed away in New York.
