Alan Hinkes is a British mountaineer born on April 26, 1954, in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England. He became the first Briton to summit all 14 peaks over 8000 meters, although some questions persist regarding his ascent of Cho Oyu in 1990. Hinkes is celebrated for his climbs, including Shishapangma in 1987 via a new route, and Manaslu shortly thereafter. He later conquered K2, Mount Everest, and Kanchenjunga, marking significant milestones in his climbing career. His achievements have earned him honorary memberships and degrees from universities in Sunderland and York.
