Alan Oakley was a renowned British bicycle designer, best known for his work with the Raleigh Bicycle Company. Born on April 27, 1927, in Nottingham, he gained recognition as Raleigh's chief designer, particularly for creating the iconic Chopper bicycle in 1967. His inspiration stemmed from Peter Fonda's motorbike in Easy Rider. While the Chopper ceased production in the 1980s due to competition from BMX bikes, it saw a revival in 2004 due to popular demand. Oakley was married twice and passed away from cancer on May 18, 2012.
