He was awarded the Prix Grand-Duc Adolphe in 1959 alongside Émile Kirscht. Nies served as the secretary and later as the vice-president of the Cercle artistique de Luxembourg from 1958 to 1968 and 1990 to his death, respectively. His contributions to the arts in Luxembourg made him a significant figure in the cultural landscape of the country.
