Mélida Anaya Montes, also known as Comandante Ana María, was a Salvadoran educator and guerrilla fighter born on May 17, 1929, in Santiago Texacuangos. She co-founded the guerrilla organization Fuerzas Populares de Liberación (FPL), which became part of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) in 1980. Ana María played a significant role in the Salvadoran civil struggle, advocating for social justice and armed resistance against oppressive regimes. She died on April 6, 1983, in Managua, leaving a legacy as a prominent figure in El Salvador's revolutionary history.
