Anne McCaffrey was an Irish-American novelist born on April 1, 1926, in Cambridge, USA, and passed away on November 21, 2011, in County Wicklow, USA. She is best known for her science fiction series 'Dragonriders of Pern'. McCaffrey was the first woman to win the Hugo Award for Best Short Novel in 1999 and the Nebula Award. Her novel 'The White Dragon' (1978) was the first science fiction book to appear on the New York Times Best Seller list. In 2005, she received the title of Grand Master from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
