Arkady Stepanovich Karakhanyan (March 19, 1951 - November 13, 2017) was an Armenian geologist and seismologist. He earned a Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences degree in 1995 and founded the scientific company 'Georisk' in 1998. From 2006 until his passing in 2017, he served as the director of the Geological Sciences Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. Notably, Karakhanyan was a pioneer of the Armenian school in active tectonics, paleo, and archeoseismology, creating a seismic model for construction stability in Armenia.
