He spent most of his career at the Museum of Finnish Architecture, where he held various positions including archivist, research director, and deputy director. He also worked as a researcher at the Helsinki City Museum and taught architectural history at the Technical University from 1973 to 1982. Salokorpi was actively involved in transportation policy and translated literary works, including Michael Innes's Farewell, My Lovely.
