August Jurs was an Estonian military officer and forest fighter, born on January 15, 1915, in Kodijärve vald, Tartumaa. He studied forestry at Tartu University from 1940 to 1944. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the German army after becoming a forest brother in 1941. In 1952, he relocated to Canada. Jurs played significant roles in the Estonian community, becoming chairman of the Hamilton Estonian Fighters' Union in 1968 and the Worldwide Estonian Freedom Fighters' Centre in 1970. He was also the editor of the newspaper Võitleja from 1980 to 2005.
