Axel Axgil, originally named Axel Lundahl Madsen, was a pioneering LGBT+ activist in Denmark who co-founded Forbundet af 1948 and was a prominent advocate for homosexual rights. He became the first chairman of the organization in 1950. Axgil openly lived with his partner, Eigil Eskildsen, and they became the world's first legally married same-sex couple in 1989. Despite facing persecution and imprisonment, Axgil continued his activism and contributed significantly to the LGBT+ movement, also co-founding the International Homosexual World Organization. He is remembered for his courage and commitment to rights for homosexuals.
