Bertalan de Némethy (1911-2002) was a Hungarian cavalry officer and show jumping coach for the U.S. Equestrian Team. He began riding in his youth, became an instructor, and fled to Denmark during WWII. Immigrating to the U.S. in 1952, he coached the U.S. Show Jumping Team from 1955 to 1980, leading them to significant Olympic and Pan American Games successes. His training methods were influential in modern equestrian techniques, and he authored 'The de Némethy Method.' He was a notable course designer and was inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame.
