William Stephen Wright, known as Billy Wright, was a Northern Irish loyalist paramilitary leader born on July 7, 1960, in Portadown. He joined the Ulster Volunteer Force around 1975 and later became a preacher after a religious conversion. Wright was involved in sectarian killings and became a prominent figure during the Drumcree dispute in the 1990s. He opposed the peace process in Northern Ireland and formed a splinter group from the UVF. In January 1997, he was imprisoned and later assassinated in jail, leading to further sectarian violence.
