Birgit Gjernes (1922-2018) was a Norwegian journalist and program creator for radio and television, born in Nesherad, Telemark. She worked nearly 40 years at NRK, producing numerous cultural programs focusing on literature and theater. Gjernes studied philology and graduated in 1950. Since joining NRK in 1951, she created and managed various series, including Ønskediktet and Bokkvelden, as well as several TV shows. Additionally, she authored and edited works on notable figures and translated multiple works from German, English, and Swedish.
