Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones (February 28, 1942 – July 3, 1969) was an English multi-instrumentalist and singer, known as the founder, rhythm/lead guitarist, and original leader of the Rolling Stones. Initially a guitarist, he provided backing vocals and played a wide variety of instruments on recordings and in concerts. As the band's musical direction shifted, Jones faced challenges with substance abuse, leading to his dismissal in June 1969. He drowned in his swimming pool less than a month later, leaving a significant impact on rock music and influencing many artists.
