Burl Toler Sr. was an American football official in the NFL from 1965 to 1989, serving as a field judge and head linesman. Notably the first African-American official in NFL history, he officiated Super Bowl XIV in 1980. Toler wore uniform number 37 for most of his career, except for a period from 1979 to 1981 when he wore number 18. After his passing, he was honored by the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and the University of San Francisco, which renamed a dormitory after him.
